China’s Electric Car Goals

China’s recent focus on green technologies and renewables, specifically electric cars, has encouraged other countries around the world to increase their focus on electric vehicles in order to compete with China’s expanding market. The proposed policies would allow China to become the center for the global auto industry, completely restructuring this market. Although China is looking to expand the use of electric vehicles to increase their global presence and economy, this will also help their air pollution, as well as their reliance on other countries for oil extraction. Because of China’s pressure for global electric development, many countries have begun to move their research and development to China. This has encouraged technologies to be shared amongst countries. Currently, Chinese cars are produced for practicality, not luxury, which has prevented them from becoming globally popular. Their current battery technology supports short travel distances in city China’s city environments, but the goal is to produce a technology that is globally marketable.

China’s global pressure has helped the development and subsequent sharing of technologies which will hopefully result in better, more affordable, and easily accessible electric cars. This could drastically change both the transportation and the energy industry, shifting energy away from oil. In the process of shifting away from oil, this has the potential to allow countries to produce their energy domestically, rather than relying on oil imports that may be obtained in countries with little environmental regulation. Although this could have a positive impact on the environment globally, the major caveat with marketing these cars as a way to help air pollution is that coal is used to produce nearly three-quarters of China’s power.

  1. China is an example of a nation that definitely needs to decrease air pollution. A good way to do this is to focus on green technologies. Although electric cars has been around for a long time now, everyone still drives cars that depend on fuel. A large nation like China looking for a more sustainable future can really influence the rest of the world, especially the ones in the East. Shifting energy away of oil is good idea because our focus needs to trying to figure out how we can rely on renewable resources. Resources like water, air and the sun can guide us to more sustainable future.
